93C Fish Farm / Father’s House, Ruiri, Kenya
Next, we visited the 93C fish farm operated by Father’s House in Ruiru, Kenya.
We met Pastor Victor Mwangi at his church and spent some time getting to know him. He and his family lived in the United States for many years, completing their education and also working for the Kenyan government in the U.S. Then, like many, he felt called to return to his home country. From his church, we ventured to the fish farm installation.
Last year, during our visit to this site, the fish farm was just nearing completion, and this year we had hoped to see it in full production. Unfortunately, a number of factors have prevented the farm from reaching productive capacity. The floating vegetable gardens have a significant insect infestation, and the water condition is difficult to maintain at a sustainable level for raising fish. Our friend Ron Barnes of 93C, who is the inventor and donor of this system, is working with the church to address the challenges they are facing. (N/P)
