Rooted Wisdom, Masaka, Uganda.
This organization is located about 50 miles east of the capital of Uganda.
Their focus includes a farm field school that is currently operating in seven village locations, as well as a women's enterprise program that starts with an eight-week training program and a three-year business mentorship.
Beneficiaries have ventured into selling clothes, making and selling toys, growing agricultural crops, and even making snacks. They currently count about 350 participants in the program.
For high school students, they offer a life skills program with about 275 students, providing support such as counseling, a tuition stipend, meals as necessary, weekly meetings, and training sessions. Their fourth program focuses on college students, with over 100 participants currently studying nursing, technology, and farming. Rooted Wisdom assists with the college application process and helps students complete the necessary steps for acceptance.
We were able to visit a demonstration farm in a rural community and meet with about 30 participants. The Rooted staff of four includes two field officers for farming, as well as Irene, the general manager, and Esther the office manager. (N/P)
