A Hope Ethiopia, Addis Abba, Ethiopia
A Hope is in many ways similar to Life Center Ethiopia, especially in their treatment of orphans.
It’s important to note that across Africa, the word “orphan” is often used in a way that seems odd to Westerners. Most African orphans have family, but perhaps one parent has passed away, or the parents are simply not able to care for the children. In the case of I Hope, they primarily reach out to children who are what we call “double orphans” and are HIV positive.
Caring for these children requires special physical and medical attention, primarily related to diet and medication.
Their antiviral medication helps build their immune system. At their main facility, they operate a clinic, a computer lab, and a sewing center.
All of these functions support not only their beneficiaries but also the surrounding community during our visit. We were able to visit to experience a group home with about six kids and two live in staff. (N/P)
